Repair Loose Alternator Post

This one's real simple.

1. Remove Alternator - duh ;)

2. Mark the orientation of the two halves of the alternator case so that you can line them up later.

3. Remove the 4 bolts holding the casing together, and just pull it apart, you'll hear two clicks, those are the brushes inside the alternator popping out. Don't worry, I'll tell you how to fix those in a minute.

4. Tighten the nut in this picture, feel free to clean up any junk or dirt that may have fallen in the alternator over time.

5. You'll notice the two brushes are now popping out, along w/ their springs. Go ahead and push the spring and brushes back in (gently). Hold them back w/ a wire hanger that you slide through the hole at the bottom of the alternator (view picture).

6. Reassemble the two alternator halves, tighten your four bolts (remember to line the halves up!!!!)

7. Reinstall your alternator, and have fun, it's fixed. See? You didn't need a new alternator after all :-D
